Natural Appearance

Too many frag substrates look like glaring white circles under the coral. Our substrates are poured to look natural and entirely unique.

Intentional Design

Every substrate design we release is reworked until it suits coral attachment perfectly while allowing you to place corals exactly where you want them.

Reef-Friendly Minerals

We use the minerals corals love in the wild to create our reef plugs to provide a balanced and predictable environment for your corals.

Our Reef Material

Our frag plugs & frag discs are designed for optimal coral health from the minerals to the geometry to the cure process. These reef plugs take an average of one full month from initial mixture to aquarium-readiness to ensure your corals receive substrates that maximize encrustation.

We put extensive care into making sure that every plug & disc meets our standard of quality, knowing that every reefer has put just as much care into their own aquarium.

Premium Frag Plugs Designed for Coral Growth

Artisan Frag Plugs are engineered specifically for reef aquariums, coral propagation systems, and commercial coral farming operations. Unlike generic concrete plugs, our reef plugs are manufactured using an aragonite-rich substrate that closely resembles the natural surfaces corals encounter in reef environments. The textured surface promotes secure coral attachment while maintaining a natural appearance that blends seamlessly into established reef tanks.

Whether you're growing SPS, LPS, or soft corals zoanthids & mushrooms, high-quality frag plugs play an important role in long-term coral health and presentation. Consistent sizing, stable construction, and reef-safe materials help create a reliable foundation for coral frags while simplifying placement, transport, and aquascaping. Every Artisan Frag Plug is designed to provide hobbyists and professional coral growers with a dependable substrate that supports healthy coral growth from frag to colony.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a frag plug and a frag rock disc?
Frag plugs and frag rock discs serve the same purpose—providing a stable surface for coral attachment and growth—but they are designed for different applications.

Frag plugs feature a stem that fits securely into frag racks, propagation trays, and grow-out systems, making them ideal for coral farming and organized frag management.

Frag rock discs have a flat base instead of a stem. They are designed to rest naturally on the sandbed or be permanently mounted to rockwork using reef-safe adhesive, creating a more natural appearance within display aquariums.
Does the type of frag plug affect coral growth?

The substrate is one of the most overlooked factors in coral propagation. While stable water chemistry, lighting, and flow remain the most important drivers of coral growth, the surface a coral grows on can influence attachment, encrustation, and long-term development.

Our aragonite-based reef plugs are designed with a naturally porous surface and mineral composition that closely resembles reef environments. This encourages secure attachment, natural encrustation patterns, and a more organic transition from frag to established colony.

Why are your frag plugs cured before shipping?

All cement-bound reef substrates require curing before they are safe for aquarium use.

Our curing process is designed to remove excess alkalinity and prepare each frag plug for introduction into a marine environment. Every batch undergoes a controlled curing period before shipment to help ensure reef-safe performance and long-term stability.

Proper curing is one of the most important steps in producing high-quality aragonite-based frag plugs, and it is a process we never rush.

Do these frag plugs work for all soft and stony corals?

Yes. All of our frag plugs and frag discs are designed for natural encrustation for all kinds of corals. We personally use them for SPS, LPS, and soft corals.

How much does shipping cost?
